The government on Friday announced setting up of a President's Relief Fund to mobilise resources for the victims of tsunami of South Asia. It will be used to collect funds for the millions who have been displaced by the massive tidal wave that devastated large areas following a 9 magnitude quake in the Indian Ocean.

The Cabinet Division has been directed by the President's Secretariat to prepare a plan of action so that relief goods are despatched to the affected areas.

Pakistan has already dispatched relief goods comprising medicines, tents, and food to Sri Lanka and Maldives.

Up to 5 million people around the tsunami-struck Indian Ocean region do not have access to the basics, the UN World Health Organisation said.
